I remember clearly when this broke out this summer. I specifically remember seeing nuns dressed in full habit holding their logo-placed chicken containers and smiling proudly on national Chick-fil-A day. As soon as I saw that picture, I felt embarrassed to be a Catholic. Religion and gay rights are probably the two most important "statements" I have to make, which is complicated since the two overlap often, but not easily. I wholeheartedly, as a Christian, believe that God wants all of His people to live equally and share in love for one another. I do not think God is homophoblic. Furthermore, I don't believe God would make it so some of His people have less rights and less respect. I've never actually been to a Chick-fil-A, but I do think that comments like these that are anti-rights and anti-encouraging are problematic. How would be we react if a COO spoke out and said that his faith kept him from thinking minorities should have the same rights? What about black people marrying white people? Suddenly I think the nuns wouldn't shop up for that one.

Hey! Thank you so much - I really appreciate all the feedback. As you so correctly said, Rochester was practically built because of Kodak but small marketing/branding blunders can spell disasters!

This was a great topic to examine here in Western New York. Kodak was the largest employer in Rochester. The companies demise certainly had an effect on the local economy.

I had no idea that Kodak invented the digital camera. None. Still, they were unable to find a niche in the digital camera market. I guess this proves that just because you are first to the dinner table doesn't mean you get the biggest portion to eat.

Well written, Priyanka!

Completely agree Michael. It is not what happened that matters because past has shown that damage control and fire fighting is possible - I wish Chick-fil-A belived in 'fire fighting" and d they did something about it!

I agree with Cassie's comments, and you made an excellent point, Priyanka, in that Chick-fil-A is in the hospitality industry. Still, I would say that the greater damage came not from Mr. Cathy's comments, but from the impassioned debate that it started. Those opposed to his comments staged boycotts, while those in support organized a national Chick-fil-A day. On both occasions, heated rhetoric was exchanged from both sides. While the original comments should have been tempered, the company should have increased efforts after the fact to encourage a more peaceful dialogue as opposed to the protest and anti-protest protests that ensued.

Thanks Cassie for sharing your views and to an extent I agree with you. My point is only about the fact that they should not have kept mute on the subject. Some kind of PR strategy could have been implemented to appease a HUGE section of the public. PR diasters are envitable for any big and successful companies, it is all about how you handle the crises that makes you even more successful and likeable. Having said that, whether their profits went south or sored, general public does not know because it is aprivately held company!
